Camden foreclosure defense and real estate attorney

Camden is the seat of Camden County, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, and its most common home is the row house, in neighborhoods like Fairview, Cramer Hill, Parkside, and East Camden. Only about a third of homes here are owner-occupied, so the owners who remain often have decades of family history in the property. David Chapman represents Camden homeowners in the Chancery Division at the Hall of Justice and with their lenders, in English or Spanish.

Local knowledge that matters

Contested Camden foreclosures are heard at the Camden County Hall of Justice, 101 South 5th Street, where the Civil Division can be reached at (856) 650-9100 ext. 43160. The sheriff's sales are not held at the courthouse. They take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 12:00 noon in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 520 Market Street, with a 20 percent deposit and no more than $500 of it in cash.

The Camden County Sheriff may grant the homeowner up to two adjournments of no more than four weeks each, at $28 apiece. The request must be in writing and notarized by the homeowner, or sent by certified letter from the homeowner's attorney. A phone call or an unsigned note does not count, and David handles the attorney letter for clients.

Camden has more HUD-approved housing counseling agencies than almost any city in the state, including Neighborhood Housing Services of Camden, Parkside Business and Community in Partnership, and St. Joseph's Carpenter Society. The counselors help assemble the financial package, and David handles the legal defense and the court deadlines. The court's mediation program is free for owner-occupants who request it within 60 days of service.
